| Rev. Harry McFarlin | ||||||||||||
Assistant Pastor To The Senior Pastor Harry fills the part-time position of Assistant Pastor to the senior Pastor, Dr. Glen Martin. His primary responsibilities include advisor to Dr. Martin, mentor and counselor to our pastoral and support staff. Other responsibilities include the monthly publication of Gentle Transitions, teaching adult classes and counseling for the growing body of believers at Journey. God's path for Harry has been unique! He and his wife Donna began attending Journey in 1961 when he was an Electrician for the Standard Oil Refinery in El Segundo. Fourteen years later, as the Electrical Inspector for the city of Redondo Beach, he and Donna, with their four children, left Journey to attend Western Conservative Baptist Seminary in Portland Oregon where Harry graduated from the M.Div. (Master's of Divinity) program in 1978. That year he began as senior Pastor for Halbert Memorial Baptist church in Salem, Oregon where he was ordained and served for 6 years. In 1985 he was called to pastor the Valley Baptist Church in Burbank California, where he and Donna ministered for 12 years. In September of 1996 Harry returned to Journey as pastor to older adults. He moved into his new position along with partial retirement in January of 2004. The McFarlin's have four children and six grandchildren. He enjoys reading, long walks along the beach and the companionship of over fifty years with Donna. Key to Harry’s ministry is the developing of close, interpersonal relationships with the congregation and with staff. Harry's love for God is revealed in His love for people and the deep conviction that God and His word are divine instruments for healing lives and meeting needs.
