Statistics reveal that it takes 85 people one year to reach one person for Christ. With 80% of the churches in North America not breaking 100 people in attendance, this means that the vast majority of churches will not see a single conversion this year. No matter how you examine these statistics, surely we would all contend that this is unacceptable. To bring about the changes necessary to make a significant turn in outreach and discipleship in the United States, a change in thinking is needed...beginning with leadership. At Journey of Faith, the leadership devoted most of 2005 to praying, seeking and writing a five-year strategic plan to move our church towards being a "Missional Church." By definition, a Missional Church is a reproducing body of authentic disciples being equipped as missionaries sent by God to live and proclaim His Kingdom in the world. To accomplish this massive change in thinking, leadership recruitment and development is paramount. Thus the new Journey Leadership Institute. Active present and future leaders have been invited to join a three-year program of learning, encouragement, and training. Homework is assigned, guest speakers from significant ministries have been invited to speak, and a new level of expectation is being developed for everyone who sees leadership as an adventure and calling. If you have been invited, please know you have been prayed for, validated by your staff and elders and seen as a significant player in the future of our church.
