Our preschool program (age 2–5) incorporates biblical learning and the basic early childhood curriculum needed to help children prepare for a successful kindergarten transition. We focus on educational, social and physical development at this age, along with nurturing their spiritual growth.
Through hands-on activities and teachings, Journey school focuses on language development, reading readiness, writing skills, pre-math, science, art, music and dramatic play. We also help our children develop their fine and gross motor skills.
The preschool program’s scope and sequence follows a developmentally appropriate monthly breakdown of skills for each age bracket. These academic and social skills purposely build upon themselves each month. Teachers use this tool to measure growth and to ensure skill sets are being introduced, reinforced and mastered throughout the year. A scope & sequence packet is distributed at the Fall Parent Orientation meeting each new school year.
Our preschool program also includes specialized instruction in music. Local music company, Music Rhapsody, brings trained instructors each week for a thirty-minute lesson to each class. They teach each child through singing, movement, and instrument playing.
Journey now offers a new phonics program to our children ages 3–5 years. Taught by our certified elementary teacher, this program focuses on pre-reading, pre-writing, phonics awareness, print knowledge and vocabulary development. Journey uses a multi-sensory phonics program called Zoo-Phonics.
Journey of Faith Christian School believes the early years are an important time in a child’s life to develop a love of learning both biblically and academically.
